It occurred to me not so long ago now

That the view of the world is backwards somehow

For that which is west we now call it east

And that which was east now lays in the west

As to this matter i was once most confused

I could not see the logic and thought this a ruse

Then early one morn to the sea i did go

Oh how the lord in his splendor did show

I watched as he came and mightily arose

To the fanfare dawn chorus and i in repose

The date was 1-1-2000 (millennium)

And i stood in my hometown of Gisborne

Which is the southern most eastern city in the world

And likewise is the first city to see the sunrise

When i looked out over the pacific i looked to the east

And when i turned my back to it i saw the west

We are the South Pacific Nation of Aotearoa (New Zealand)
